Canadian doing Resudency in US

Hi. I am Canadian and am thinking of studying at SJSM. After reading some horrifying reports on the web about IMGs getting Canadian residencies I am wondering about the possibility of getting a US residency. I'm starting to get cold feet with this whole Caribbean med degree thing. Last thing I want is to spend a fortune and then not get residency. I'm quite old (about 50) so will that be a hinderance to residency? Also, can a Canadian with US residency experience easily get licensed in Canada afterwards? I'm not sure how it all works since I'm new to this game. Your feedback and advice would be appreciated.
