    Online initial PA programs

Why aren't there any online PA program for initial certifications?
I realize that I have missed the chance.. but come on. NP's can do pretty much their entire program online (except for clinical rotations, obviously). So why can't PAs?

I work full time and have a family. I simply cannot just stop working for 25 to 28 months in order to pursue this awesome career. I could, however, take online courses to become an RN, then take more online courses to become a Nurse Practitioner.

I just wish there were some sort of hybrid program for people like me. I have lots of experiences I bring with me (life, professional and healthcare) but feel like I have no shot at a PA career because of how the education system is set up. Frankly, NP's have proven that online training doesn't pose any threat to patient safety or quality of care.

Thanks for reading my complaint (ha ha). If anyone reads this knows of a program (or a potential program) for initial PA training online, please let me know!

I am sure there are hybrid PA programs in US where you can study basic sciences online and do clinical training in hospitals. I have seen some people who did that. Google and see what you can find.

Here's a link to a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) available from The University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine:

I don't know what kind of healthcare experience you have but here are some links to a Surgical First Assistant (CSA) program and a Respiratory Therapy (RRT) "Hybrid" program:

    MidlifePA,
Commenting on your inquiry about an "entire program online". I don't know of any medical tracks where a completely "online program" is available. Even the NP program requires 1 plus years of experience as an RN just to get accepted into a "hybrid" program. Depending on the speciality, most programs require 1 to 2 years (3 to 6 semesters) of clinical rotations in addition to the online didactics. The training needs to integrate "hands on" clinical experience or it would be worthless!

University of North Dakota used to have a mostly online RN to PA program. Don't know if they still do.
