    Family @ Atlanta Medical Center

Anyone know about how Family Medicine is at Atlanta Medical Center? I am currently scheduled to be there from April-May 2008. I am going to take Step 2 CS thereafter in Atlanta, GA.

    Thanks

Yes this is true. Just finished obgyn "at AMC". Ross students not allowed to step into OR's due to something happening early in the summer. Some doctors will sneak you in during late hours or night, if you're lucky.
I also did Peds "at Dekalb Medical Center". It was originally done acutally IN AMC before my rotation, but was really only an ER rotation. Students were in the ER and saw half regular adult patients and few pediatric patients. They learned ER stuff, not Peds. So we had them switch it. Now Peds is thru private doctors AFFILIATED with either AMC or Dekalb.

But again... MOST atlanta rotations are not hospital-based rotations. They are based out of clinic or private offices. I found them very good none-the-less. Less stress, fewer calls, and more one-on-one with the doctor instead of doing scut-work for a resident!

OK, now I am curious...what happened in the OR?

OBGYN is ACGME accredited at AMC. Peds is only accredited at Dekalb Medical Center.
If at the time of the rotation (not where Ross says which hospital you are supposedly going to) the doctor is affiliated with those hospitals, then you are good.

As for what happened in the OR... no need to spread rumors. But from what i heard, it wasn't the students fault, they were following orders and a nurse who saw thought otherwise.
